Former MP Barrister Sayedul Haque Sumon said, "May Bangladesh be well no matter what the situation in the country is." He made the remarks while going to jail after a hearing at the Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate's Court on Wednesday morning in the case of the death of a worker named Md. Riaz (35) in Jatrabari amid the July movement.
At that time, Barrister Sumon said, 'May the situation in the country be good in Bangladesh. May it be good in Bangladesh.' He kept saying the same thing over and over again. The other defendants kept their heads down and remained silent.
Earlier on Wednesday morning, the police produced Barrister Sumon and seven others from the jail to the court. They were then kept in the CMM court's jail. At around 9:50 am, they were taken to the courtroom of the Metropolitan Magistrate's Court in Dhaka amid tight police security. At that time, they were handcuffed, wearing helmets and bulletproof jackets. After the hearing, the accused were taken to the jail from the court at around 10:15 am under tight security.
The other accused in the case are former ministers Amir Hossain Amu, Hasanul Haque Inu, Rashed Khan Menon, Anisul Haque, Abdur Razzak and former MP from Jatrabari-5 constituency Kazi Monirul Islam Monu.
Meanwhile, during the hearing, former minister Amir Hossain Amu's lawyer Mohsin Reza brought 'sandwiches and dry food' for him. The lawyer sought permission from the court to serve him the food. However, state lawyer Omar Farooq Farooqi opposed this. After the hearing, the court rejected the issue of serving food to the accused.
In this regard, Amir Hossain Amur's lawyer Mohsin Reza said, "The accused has to eat food every hour. For this, his favorite food, sandwiches and dry food, were brought to the court. But the court did not allow him to give this food. The accused is an elderly person, suffering from various diseases. For this reason, he has to eat food at regular intervals." Dhaka Metropolitan Public Prosecutor Omar Faruk Faruki confirmed this information to Samakal for the state.
