A court has granted a four-day remand to former Education Minister Dr. Dipu Moni in the murder case of Md. Monir, a swindler in the Chankharpul area of Shahbagh Police Station in the capital.
The court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mehedi Hasan passed the order after a hearing on Monday. Dipu Moni was produced before the court from jail on the same day. Shahbagh Police Station Sub-Inspector Mainul Khan Pulak, the investigation officer of the case, applied for a 10-day remand.
Public Prosecutor Omar Faruk Faruki heard the case in favor of the remand. After hearing both sides, the court granted him a four-day remand. According to the charges in the case, on August 5 last year, during the July movement, small-time trader Md. Monir participated in the movement with students and the public in the Chankharpul area of Shahbagh police station. He died on the spot after being shot by the accused in the afternoon.
In this incident, the deceased's wife, Rozina Akhter, filed a Shahbagh murder case on March 14. In this case, 351 people were named as accused and 500 were named as unknown accused.
