A fire broke out at a garment and chemical godown in Rupnagar, Mirpur, in the capital. Upon receiving the news, five units of the fire service initially went to the scene. Two more units joined later.
The fire service received a report of the fire at around 11:40 am on Tuesday (October 14). The first unit of the fire service later arrived at the scene at 11:56 am.
Confirming the matter, Talha Bin Jasim, an officer of the media cell of the Fire Service headquarters, said, "A fire broke out at a garment and chemical godown in the Shialbari area of Rupnagar, Mirpur in the capital. Seven of our units are working at the scene after receiving the information."
Talha bin Jasim also said that two establishments caught fire. One of them is a ready-made garment factory, the other is a chemical warehouse. The garment factory is seven-storey. The fire broke out on its fourth floor. We have almost extinguished the fire in the garment factory. However, work is underway to control the fire in the chemical warehouse.
The cause of the fire and the extent of the damage are not initially known. We have not received any reports of casualties in the fire so far, he said.
