A young man named Md. Zahid (20) was killed in a cocktail explosion during a clash between two groups at Geneva Camp in Mohammadpur, the capital.
The incident took place around 3:30 am on Wednesday (October 22). Later, he was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) in a seriously injured condition, where the doctor on duty declared him dead around 4:45 am.
Zahid was a resident of Geneva Camp. He was the youngest of five sisters and two brothers. Zahid worked at a mobile servicing shop in Kalyanpur, the capital. His father's name was Md. Imran (deceased).
Aftab Hossain, a friend of the deceased, said that there was a clash inside the Geneva camp last night. Zahid came out of his house to see it. At one point in the clash between the two sides, a cocktail exploded in front of Zahid's feet, seriously injuring him. He was later taken to a local hospital. From there, we rescued him and took him to Dhaka Medical College for advanced treatment, but the doctor on duty said that Zahid was no longer alive.
Inspector in-charge of DMCH Hospital Police Camp Md. Faruk confirmed Zahid's death, quoting a doctor. He said the body has been kept in the hospital morgue. The matter has been reported to the concerned police station.
It is worth noting that clashes between two groups of drug traffickers in Geneva Camp are frequent. For the past few days, clashes and shootings have been going on between the Bunia Sohel group and the Picchi Raja and Chua Selim groups in Geneva Camp. Two days ago, law enforcement agencies arrested several people along with 32 cocktails.
