BNP is announcing the initial list of candidates for 237 seats ahead of the upcoming 13th National Parliament elections.
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir began announcing the names of the party candidates through a press conference at the BNP Chairperson's political office in Gulshan, Dhaka, on Monday (November 3) at around 5:30 pm.
He said that in the upcoming elections, party chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia will contest from three constituencies: Feni-1, Bogra-7 and Dinajpur-3. While party acting chairman Tarique Rahman will contest from one constituency, Bogra-6.
Apart from this, it was reported that Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir will contest from Thakurgaon-1 constituency and Sanjida Tuli, who is also known as Mayer Dakar, will contest from Dhaka-14 constituency.
Earlier, a meeting of the party's standing committee was held under the leadership of acting chairman Tarique Rahman, where the initial list of party candidates was finalized.
At that time, Mirza Fakhrul said, "After 16 long years, we are going to have democratic elections next February. Lists of potential candidates for 237 seats are being given in the elections. And the BNP will coordinate the candidates for the seats where the simultaneous movement partners will be announced."
Earlier, when asked how BNP is finalizing its candidate list, party Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said in an interview with Dhaka Post that they are conducting field-level surveys so that they can select candidates who can win the election.
Present at the press conference are BNP standing committee members Dr. Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, Mirza Abbas, Gayeshwar Chandra Roy, Abdul Moin Khan, Major (Retd.) Hafiz Uddin Ahmed, Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, Selima Rahman, Iqbal Hasan Mahmud Tuku and Dr. AZM Zahid Hossain.
