Three buses were set on fire by miscreants at three separate locations in Gazipur. The arson attacks took place in Sreepur in the district, Bhogra Bypass and Chakraborty areas of the city from Tuesday (November 11) night to Wednesday morning. Although the buses were burnt in the three incidents, no casualties were reported.
According to police and fire service sources, the first incident took place on Tuesday night around 10 pm on Chandra-Nabinagar Road in Chakraborty area of Gazipur city. A mechanic was repairing a bus parked on the side of the road in front of Jyoti Filling Station. At that time, two men on a motorcycle set the bus on fire and fled. Later, people from the area came and put out the fire.
Kashimpur Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Moniruzzaman said, "The miscreants came on a motorcycle and set the bus on fire and fled. Later, the locals controlled the fire. Although the bus was damaged, there were no casualties. The matter is being investigated."
The second incident took place at around 4:45 am in the Beraiderchala area of Sreepur upazila. There, a Banasree Paribahan bus parked next to a 'personal filling station' was set on fire.
Sreepur Fire Service in-charge Mahmudul Hasan said that a Banasree Paribahan bus was parked next to the personal filling station. Suddenly, miscreants came and set it on fire and fled. On receiving the information, two units from Sreepur Fire Station rushed to the spot. The fire was completely brought under control at around 5:20 am. However, there were no casualties.
Meanwhile, miscreants set fire to a bus on the Dhaka-Tangail highway in the Bhogra Peyara Bagan area of the city around 5 am. A VIP Paribahan bus parked in front of the Modern Fire Service Station here was set on fire. Upon receiving information, a unit of the fire service reached the spot and brought the fire under control after about half an hour of effort.
