Cracks have been created in the ground in at least two places in Palash Upazila due to the impact of the earthquake. One of them is a crack in the dirt road in front of the Palash Residential Model School and College adjacent to the bus stand in Darihaolapara in the municipal area. When asked about this, Arif Pathan, the director of the school and college, said that the road is used as a road to and from their educational institution. Cracks appeared in the dirt road due to the strong shaking during the earthquake yesterday morning.
In addition, a long crack has appeared in a cattle farm named Ghorashal Dairy Farm in Lebupara in the municipal area. Multiple cracks have appeared from one end to the other in the middle of the farm's courtyard. The workers working there said that these cracks appeared during the earthquake.
The epicenter of the earthquake is the J&J Tower, the largest building in Madhavadi, Narsingdi. The 14-story tower houses a private hospital on the second, third, and fourth floors. People live in 48 flats from the fifth to 14th floors.
The hospital's chairman, Sonnet Md. Noman, was in the hospital when the earthquake struck. Describing the incident, he said, "The entire building was swaying from side to side. Everyone, including the hospital patients, started running. Some patients were seen going down with saline in their hands, risking their lives. Since the building has four exit points, everyone could safely go down."
The building's caretaker, Yasir Arafat, and security guard Md. Falu Mia said they had never seen such an earthquake before. When the tremors ended, everyone returned to their homes and the hospital.
Police said that so far 80 people injured in the earthquake have received treatment at various private clinics, including Narsingdi Sadar Hospital and the 100-bed Narsingdi District Hospital.
During the earthquake, a fire broke out at a substation of the Ghorashal Thermal Power Plant in Palash Upazila of Narsingdi. The substation's components burned, cutting off power supply to Palash and Ghorashal.
Palash Fire Service Senior Station Officer Md. Abdul Shahid said that two of their units reached the spot and brought the fire under control. Md. Enamul Haque, Chief Engineer of Ghorashal Thermal Power Plant, said that the fire started due to an earthquake. Power supply was restored after 2 pm.
