Army Chief General Waqar-uz-Zaman has said that the army will provide all possible assistance to the Election Commission to conduct fair elections.
The army chief made this statement at a function organized at the Army Multipurpose Complex in Dhaka Cantonment on the occasion of Armed Forces Day on Sunday (November 23).
The army chief said, "The country is heading towards an election, in which we will properly cooperate with the government. We will cooperate with the Election Commission so that we can have a fair election. The army is engaged in maintaining law and order in the country."
At that time, the Army Chief also said that the Bangladesh Army will continue to work in the interests of the country and for the welfare of the people of the country, following the path shown by the freedom fighters.
At the ceremony, the Army Chief awarded medals to 64 army personnel and felicitated 75 freedom fighter families for their heroic deeds and outstanding contributions to the army. Of these, 9 were awarded the Army Medal, 17 were awarded the Outstanding Service Medal, and 38 were awarded the Distinguished Service Medal for their various contributions in the fiscal years 2024-25 and 2025-26.
