The government has abolished the requirement of police verification for obtaining a passport. As a result, from now on, police clearance will not be required to obtain a passport.
The chief advisor made the announcement on Sunday (February 16). The matter was confirmed by the chief advisor's senior assistant press secretary, Faiz Ahmed.
The chief advisor made the announcement at the inauguration ceremony of DC Simmelon today. Earlier, the Public Administration Reforms Commission recommended the abolition of police verification in citizens' passports.
He said the government has abolished the provision of police verification for issuing passports, and obtaining a passport is a civil right.
Dr. Muhammad Yunus said that police verification will not be required to get a passport. He urged the district administrators to convey such decisions to the people.
The chief advisor said, "A passport is a right of my citizenship. Whether I am a thief or a robber will be judged separately by the police. The birth certificate that was given to me was not done with any police verification. The NID that was given to me was also not done with any police verification, I got it as a citizen."
