BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia returned home from London after a four-month long medical treatment. The special plane (air ambulance) of the Emir of Qatar carrying her landed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in the capital at 10:40 am on Tuesday (May 6). Two daughters-in-law, Zubaida Rahman and Syeda Sharmila Rahman, returned home with Khaleda Zia on the same flight.

After the airport formalities, he left the airport for his Gulshan residence Firoza at 11:20 am amidst the cheers of the leaders and activists.

Atiqur Rahman Rumman, convener of the BNP family, told Dhaka Post that the vehicle carrying BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia left the airport for Feroza at 11:20 am.

Khaleda Zia is seen sitting in the front seat of her long-time Nissan Patrol car. Behind her are her two sons, the wife of BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman and the wife of her late younger son Arafat Rahman Koko.

It was seen on the ground that thousands of leaders and activists gathered at the airport to welcome the BNP Chairperson since morning. They expressed their joy by chanting slogans and applauding as Khaleda Zia's car left the airport. The entire airport area became festive with the emotional presence of the leaders and activists. When Khaleda Zia's motorcade left the airport for Gulshan, the leaders and activists standing on both sides of the road welcomed Khaleda Zia by chanting slogans.

Party sources said that to welcome Khaleda Zia, Dhaka Metropolitan North BNP will be stationed in the area from the airport to the Le Meridien Hotel. Chhatra Dal will be stationed in the area from the Le Meridien Hotel to Khilkhet. Jubo Dal will be stationed in the area from Khilkhet to Hotel Radisson. Dhaka Metropolitan South BNP will be stationed in the area from Hotel Radisson to Army Stadium. The Volunteer Party will be stationed in the area from Army Stadium to Banani Cemetery. The Farmers Party will be stationed in the area from Banani Cemetery to Kakoli More. The Workers Party will be stationed in the area from Kakoli More to Sheraton Hotel in Banani. The Ulama Party, Tanti Party, Jassas, Fishermen Party will be stationed in the area from Sheraton Hotel to Banani Kacha Bazar. The Professional Organizations will be stationed in the area from Banani Kacha Bazar to Gulshan-2. The Women's Party will be stationed in the area from Gulshan-2 Roundabout to Gulshan Avenue Road.

Accordingly, a crowd of leaders and activists was seen at various points on the road from the airport to Gulshan. The presence of leaders and activists was especially noticeable on the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway in the airport area.

On the other hand, strict security measures have been taken on the road from the airport to Gulshan in view of Khaleda Zia's arrival. Along with members of the law enforcement agencies, party volunteers were also seen keeping an eye on the situation.

Khaleda Zia went to London, UK, for advanced treatment on January 8. She was undergoing treatment there under the supervision of specialist doctors at the London Clinic.

Upon learning of Khaleda Zia's physical illness, Qatar's Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani sent an air ambulance for her to travel to the UK. She went to London in that and returned home in the same air ambulance.
