The National Board of Revenue (NBR) has been split into two. An ordinance was issued last night (12 May 2025) to this effect. The organization has been split into two departments: Revenue Policy and Revenue Management.

The interim government has issued the much-discussed 'Revenue Policy and Revenue Management Ordinance', ignoring the opinions of BCS Income Tax and Customs cadre officers. The ordinance issued on Monday (May 12) night has made minor changes only in the scope of work of the Revenue Policy Department. The administrative posts of the Revenue Management Department have been filled by income tax and customs cadre officers along with administration cadre officers.

The ordinance states that the Revenue Policy Department will monitor the implementation of tax laws and the tax collection situation. The Revenue Management Department will do the main work of revenue collection.
