The leaders of the organization have demanded the resignation of the university's vice-chancellor, proctor and the home affairs advisor of the interim government following the stabbing death of Dhaka University Chhatra Dal leader Shahriar Alam Samya in the capital's Suhrawardy Udyan.
Chhatra Dal leaders made this demand during a brief rally in front of the university's VC's premises after a protest on campus on Wednesday afternoon (14 May 2025).
At the protest rally, leaders and activists raised slogans such as 'One point, one demand, VC's resignation', 'My brother's body is lying there, what is the administration doing', 'Two murders in nine months, VC Proctor has many virtues'.
After a brief gathering, Shahriar's funeral was held inside the university's central mosque after the Zuhr prayers.
At the rally, Chhatra Dal central president Rakibul Islam Rakib said, "Suhrawardy Udyan has become a haven for drug addicts and a haven for drug addicts. They have not noticed the slightest step taken by the administration against the drug dens that are still active in the area surrounding Dhaka University."
Rakibul Islam said, this administration has failed to ensure justice for the Chhatra League. The main demand of the July-August movement was to bring the Chhatra League terrorists to justice. But they feel that this administration may not be able to complete that task. Even so, they have not received any clear statement or statement from the university administration regarding Shahriar's murder.
Rakibul Islam said, "We have lost our brother Samya. But in the future, we hope that no student at Dhaka University will be affected by such an unwanted incident."
Rakibul Islam said, "The demands for resignation have been raised from the student community, I hope they will resign. They will be on the streets in support of their demands. Their movement will continue on campus."
Student Party Central General Secretary Nasir Uddin Nasir said, "After August 5, you have seen how a mentally unbalanced person named Tofazzal was murdered at Dhaka University. From today's rally, I want to clearly state that the administration that took charge of Dhaka University after the mass uprising has grossly failed to provide security to the general students of Dhaka University."
Nasir Uddin Nasir said, they are demanding the arrest and trial of the killers of Samyar. At the same time, they are demanding the resignation of the Proctor of Dhaka University who failed to provide security. At the same time, the Vice Chancellor of Dhaka University, as the guardian of the university, cannot avoid responsibility for this incident in any way. The two murders after the mass uprising prove that the Vice Chancellor of Dhaka University has failed miserably. Therefore, they are demanding the resignation of the Vice Chancellor as well.
Nasir also said that since the interim government took office, law and order has been deteriorating drastically. Earlier, a talented student of a private university and a talented activist of Chhatra Dal, Parvez, were killed. Therefore, they feel that this interim government has also failed miserably in maintaining law and order. Therefore, they are also demanding the resignation of the home affairs advisor of the interim government.
Dhaka University Chhatra Dal president Ganesh Chandra Roy said with courage that they have been behaving tolerantly so far. He is again saying from today's rally that if they do not see any visible action in the next few hours, they will also point fingers at the interim government. He demanded the resignation of the vice-chancellor and proctor.
Earlier, a protest march began at 12 noon from the foot of the university's anti-terrorism Raju sculpture. The march passed through the university's central library premises, Madhur Canteen, Kala Bhavan and ended with a rally in front of the vice-chancellor's residence.
Shahriar, the literature and publications secretary of Dhaka University's Sir A.F. Rahman Hall Chhatra Dal, was stabbed to death by a miscreant at around 12 am yesterday in the Suhrawardy Udyan area. He was a master's student in the Department of Education and Research at Dhaka University.
