BNP leader Ishraq Hossain's supporters have been protesting for seven consecutive days demanding that he be sworn in as the mayor of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC). However, instead of going to Nagar Bhaban like other days, they took up a position at Matsya Bhaban intersection today (Wednesday). This has brought traffic in the area to a standstill.
The protesters gathered at the intersection of the High Court Gate, Press Club and Shiksha Bhavan since morning. Later, they all took a position together in front of the Fisheries Bhavan. At that time, the roads were blocked in all directions.
Meanwhile, the road in front of the Nagar Bhaban is empty. No people were seen there. However, the employees of the City Corporation are holding a protest program inside the Nagar Bhaban. Along with this, like other days, they have locked the offices of various departments of the Nagar Bhaban today. As a result, all types of service activities are closed today.
Ishraq Hossain's supporters have been protesting since Wednesday demanding that he be sworn in as mayor. The protesters have given an ultimatum until 10 am today to accept their demands. Ishraq's supporters have warned that if no decision is made to hand over the responsibility to Ishraq Hossain by this time, they will announce a stricter program.
On Tuesday afternoon, former secretary Mashiur Rahman, coordinator of the movement, said from the program, "We will wait until 10 am on Wednesday. If a decision is not made to hand over the mayor's duties to Ishraq Hossain by then, we will gather again at 10 am and give a more stringent program." At the same time, he also warned that Dhaka would be paralyzed.
