The sit-in program of BNP and its affiliated organizations is continuing, demanding that Ishraq Hossain be given the responsibility of mayor of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC).
Leaders and activists said they protested at the Kakrail intersection all night.
At around 8:15 am today, more than a hundred leaders and activists were seen sitting and standing in front of the police barricade on the right side of the road from Kakrail intersection towards Jamuna.
There are several hundred more leaders and activists scattered around in small groups.
Some leaders and activists who had stayed overnight were seen resting. Others were resting by lying down on tarpaulins spread out on the road.
Several leaders and activists of the Volunteer Party were seen chanting slogans in favor of Ishraq on the road leading from Kakrail intersection to Matsya Bhaban.
Today, on the last working day of the week, people going to work via the relevant road were seen suffering.
The leaders and activists were seen turning many motorcyclists who were approaching Kakrail intersection after crossing the barriers set up at the intersection adjacent to Matsya Bhavan, in the opposite direction.
Due to the road closure, many people trying to go from Kakrail intersection towards Matsya Bhavan or Hotel Intercontinental were seen going in the other direction.
Some were approaching the leaders and activists who had taken up positions and requesting them to let them go, but no one was being allowed to leave.
Around 9 am, the leaders and activists participating in the sit-in program were seen raising slogans together. At that time, they raised slogans like 'Ishraq Bhai of the highway, we have not forgotten you'; 'We want to fight, fight, fight, we want to live by fighting'; 'Yamuna in Yamuna, I will not go'; 'Dealing with oaths, will not work, will not work'; 'Interference in the court, will not work, will not work'; 'Who will win this fight, Ishraq Bhai's soldiers' etc.
Law enforcement officers were seen on alert in the area surrounding the protest by leaders and activists.
The sit-in program of BNP leaders and activists began at around 10:30 am on Wednesday. They took up positions at Matsya Bhaban intersection, the intersection in front of Kakrail Mosque, and the surrounding areas. They continued their protest by taking positions on the roads throughout the day.
BNP leader Ishraq Hossain, who came to the sit-in program at around 7:30 pm yesterday, announced that he would continue the movement until he was given the responsibility of mayor. He also demanded the resignation of two advisors to the interim government, Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan and Mahfuz Alam. Ishraq Hossain said that the two advisors should resign to restore the government's neutrality.
Later, Ishraq Hossain took up his position at the protest site. He remained with the leaders and activists until 12:45 am last night.
