After the arrest of former CEC AKM Nurul Huda, another Chief Commissioner, Kazi Habibul Awal, was arrested by law enforcement on Sunday night.
A source at the police headquarters confirmed his arrest. The source said law enforcement officers arrested him from Bashundhara residential area on Sunday night.
The Kazi Habibul Awal Commission, which won the title of 'I-Dummy Vote' by electing candidates from the Awami League and independent candidates from the same party in 2024, has been the subject of intense controversy over most of the activities of the commission.
There was a major controversy over the voter turnout in that election. Although it was reported that 27.15 percent of the votes were cast by 3 pm on the day of the election, within an hour the voter turnout was stated to be 40 percent. However, when announcing the voter turnout, CEC Kazi Habibul Awal initially said that 28 percent of the votes were cast, but later revised it to 40 percent.
That's why BNP filed a case against him. The same case was also filed against the CEC AKM Nurul Huda, who was in charge of the past national elections, and the dictator Sheikh Hasina, who 'won' these three elections.
Habibul Awal, who had been hiding from public view since Hasina's fall in a student uprising, was arrested by the police today.
Earlier, police also arrested former Chief Election Commissioner AKM Nurul Huda. Local people detained him in the capital's Uttara on Sunday evening and handed him over to the police.
