On June 28, 18 people died of dengue. Three people died of this virus in May. Accordingly, dengue deaths increased six times in June. Public health experts say that the dengue situation is deteriorating due to the weakness of mosquito control activities. There is a fear that the situation will become even worse in July.

Meanwhile, one person died in the previous 24 hours till 8 am on Saturday. During this period, 262 people were admitted to the hospital with dengue. The Department of Health announced this information through a press release.

Jahangirnagar University entomologist Professor Kabirul Bashar said that the number of deaths in June has increased six times compared to May. If this trend continues, the number may increase several times in July. This time, the number of deaths and infections is higher outside Dhaka. There is a fear that the situation will worsen in all 64 districts compared to the previous year. Because Aedes mosquitoes are now present in all districts. However, preventive measures have not yet been taken in all districts to prevent dengue.

The Department of Health's notification said that the highest number of dengue patients were admitted in Barisal division in 24 hours, 141 people. With this, the number of patients admitted this year has reached 9,484. The number of dengue deaths this year is 41. Of these, 19 people died in Dhaka South City area. Then 11 people died in Barisal division, four in Chittagong. The remaining 11 are from other divisions.

According to the information from the Directorate General of Health, 1,063 people are currently undergoing treatment for dengue in various hospitals in the country. Of them, 312 are in various hospitals in Dhaka and 751 are in hospitals outside Dhaka. The Directorate General of Health has been keeping information on dengue since 2000. Of these, 321,017 people were hospitalized with the disease in 2023. The highest number of deaths was recorded in that year, 1,705. In 2024, 1,211 people were hospitalized and 575 died.

Upazila Parishad CA dies in Patharghata

Patharghata correspondent said that Sirajum Munira, Chief Assistant (CA) of Upazila Parishad in Patharghata, Barguna, died of dengue on Saturday morning. The details of her death were not mentioned in the press release of the Health Department. She is the wife of Monir Mia of Padma village in Patharghata Sadar Union. They have a 10-year-old son and a 6-year-old daughter.

Munira was admitted to Patharghata Upazila Health Complex after contracting dengue on Tuesday. She died on the way to Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital in Barisal for advanced treatment in the morning as her platelet count dropped rapidly.

Civil Surgeon Md. Abul Fattah said that despite the increasing pressure of dengue patients in the hospital, there is not enough medicine. The situation has become more complicated due to the lack of proper measures by the municipality to kill mosquitoes.
