Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin has said that foreign observers, who have 'verified' the past three elections as legitimate, will not be allowed to observe the next parliamentary elections.
He made this statement after a meeting with Canadian High Commissioner Ajit Singh at the Election Building in Agargaon on Tuesday (July 8).
The CEC said, "The Canadian High Commissioner has asked about the preparations for the elections. We have informed about our preparations. We have been informed about the work we will start to raise awareness among voters. We have been informed about various types of training. They want us to organize free, fair and acceptable elections."
He said, there has been talk about the misuse of AI (Artificial Intelligence). They will give us suggestions on these issues. Besides, Canada is pleased to hear about the current Election Commission's commitment to organizing fair elections. Canada will cooperate with us. It can also cooperate in the ballot project or in other ways.
Nasir Uddin said, "Many foreign observers will come for the next election. Many, including the EU, have informed us in letters. However, we will not accept the foreign observers who gave 'good' certificates for the past three elections."
