The tribunal has ordered the formal indictment of three defendants, including ousted former dictator Sheikh Hasina, in a case of crimes against humanity committed during the July uprising.
The three-member International Crimes Tribunal-1, headed by Justice Md. Golam Mortuza Majumder, on Thursday (July 10) rejected the plea to release the accused from the case. With this, the formal trial against Sheikh Hasina and the three others began.
Former IGP Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun was produced before the tribunal this morning for the hearing of the charge sheet.
Earlier, on July 7, today was the date set for the order on framing of formal charges against three accused including ousted former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the case of crimes against humanity committed during the July 2024 mass uprising. Along with Sheikh Hasina, former Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal and former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun are accused in the case. Among the accused, Sheikh Hasina and Asaduzzaman Khan are absconding. Amir Hossain is the state-appointed lawyer for them.
That day, state-appointed lawyer Md. Amir Hossain filed a petition for the release of Sheikh Hasina and Asaduzzaman Khan at the tribunal hearing on the framing of charges. The other accused in the case, former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun, is under arrest.
On July 1, the prosecution concluded its hearing in favor of framing charges against fugitive former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, former Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, and former police chief Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun in a case of crimes against humanity in connection with the July-August genocide.
