A Supreme Court lawyer has filed a writ petition seeking directions to form a high-powered judicial commission to investigate the brutal murder of scrap metal trader Lal Chand alias Sohag in front of Mitford (Sir Salimullah Medical College) Hospital in the capital. The writ also seeks directions to arrest the real criminals directly involved in the murder.
Supreme Court lawyer Yunus Ali Akand filed the writ petition at the relevant branch of the High Court on Sunday. He told, "The writ petition was presented to the High Court bench comprising Justice Qazi Zeenat Haque and Justice Ainun Nahar Siddiqa for hearing today. The writ petition will be on the court's agenda for hearing tomorrow, Monday."
Lal Chand (39) was brutally murdered in front of Mitford Hospital in Old Dhaka last Wednesday. Before the murder, he was summoned and beaten, hit with bricks and stones, and bruised on his head and various parts of his body. At one stage, he was stripped naked. Some people jumped on his body. BNP has expelled five leaders and activists of Jubo Dal, Swechchhasebak Dal and Chhatra Dal involved in the incident from the organization for life.
A case was filed at the Kotwali Police Station in the capital on Thursday in connection with the murder of Lal Chand. The deceased's sister, Manjuara Begum (42), filed the case. The names of 19 people have been mentioned in the case. 15-20 people have been named as unidentified accused.
A total of five people, including Titon Gazi, have been arrested in the controversial murder case. The remaining four are Mahmudul Hasan Mohin (41), Tarique Rahman Robin (22), Alamgir (28) and Monir alias Chhota Monir (25).
