The National Citizens Party (NCP) has demanded that the 'boat' be removed from the Election Commission's list of symbols. The party said that since the registration of the Awami League has been suspended, their party symbol, the boat, has no chance of being on the list. At the same time, the party leaders have announced a political fight if the NCP is not given the Shapla symbol.

NCP leaders told reporters after a meeting with Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin at the capital's Agargaon Election Building on Sunday afternoon. At the time, NPP Joint Member Secretary Advocate Zahirul Islam Musa said that they have submitted a written application to the EC to remove the boat symbol. The Chief Election Commissioner has assured to consider the application.

At that time, NCP Chief Coordinator Nasir Uddin Patwary said, "There is no legal obstacle to NCP getting the lotus flower as the party symbol. If there is any obstacle, we will fight politically."

In response to a question, Nasiruddin Patwari said, "The EC must be restructured before the elections. The EC is now working as a spokesperson for a party. The EC must be restructured before the elections by keeping those who are doing good work in this EC."

Earlier, a five-member NCP team went to the election building around 10:30 am. Later, a five-member delegation including NCP Chief Coordinator Nasir Uddin Patwari, Southern Region Chief Organizer Hasnat Abdullah and Northern Region Chief Organizer Sarjis Alam met with Chief Election Commissioner AMM Nasir Uddin at around 11 am. The meeting lasted for about two and a half hours.

Last week, the EC decided to reserve 115 symbols without the lotus in the schedule of symbols to amend the rules for conducting the National Assembly elections, which it sent to the Law Ministry for vetting on the same day. The NCP criticized the EC's decision.

NCP asked for the Shapla symbol when it filed its registration application on June 22. Mahmudur Rahman Manna-led Nagorik Oikya asked for the same symbol on April 17. In addition, both parties held several meetings with the EC regarding Shapla. Amidst these conflicting demands regarding Shapla, the EC did not include the symbol in the schedule.

There are currently 50 registered parties. The remaining symbols will be allocated to independent candidates and other new parties.
