Police have rescued food inspector Sushanta Kumar Majumder, 5.5 hours after he was kidnapped in Khulna. He was rescued with his hands, feet and eyes tied from Azgara BRB High School in Terkhada upazila of Khulna around 12:30 am on Sunday. He is being kept at Khulna Sadar Police Station and is being given primary treatment. Sushanta Kumar Majumder is working as a food inspector of the Food Department and is in-charge of Ghat No. 4 in Khulna.
It is known that earlier on Sunday evening around 7 pm, some people picked him up from the city's Ghat No. 4 area . The kidnappers introduced themselves as police. After the kidnapping, the gang demanded ransom from the family. In this incident, the food officer's wife Madhavi Rani Majumder filed a written complaint with Khulna Police Station that night.
Khulna Sadar Police Station OC Hawlader Sanwar Hussain Masum said, "Since the kidnapping, multiple police units have launched operations from all sides. Terrified by the police operation, the kidnappers left him tied up and blindfolded in the BRB High School grounds of Ajgara village in Terkhada upazila. Later, with the help of the local police, Sushanta Kumar Majumder was rescued. He was brought to the police station and is being given primary treatment."
He said the kidnappers demanded ransom. The family paid some money through mobile banking. Later, the police also detained the mobile banking agent for questioning.
Mehedi Hasan, OC of Terkhada Police Station in Khulna district, said that Khulna Police Station rescued the man with the help of Terkhada Police Station around 12:30 am. However, he could not say exactly why he was kidnapped.
