A case has been filed with Gopalganj Sadar Police Station against 354 people from Awami League, Chhatra League and other allied organizations for burning two motorcycles by blocking a road to obstruct a march of the National Citizens Party (NCP) in Gopalganj. Sub-Inspector Shamim Al Mamun of Baoltoli police outpost in Gopalganj Sadar upazila filed the case on Friday night.
The names of 54 leaders and activists have been mentioned in this case. Three hundred unknown people have been made accused. Gopalganj Sadar Police Station OC Mir Mohammad Sajedur Rahman confirmed the matter at 3:15 pm on Saturday.
The case details state that on Wednesday, the National Citizens Party had a July march in Gopalganj. To prevent the march, the accused set up a barricade on the Gopalganj-Tekerhat regional highway at Satpar in Gopalganj Sadar Upazila that morning. They started shouting inflammatory slogans there. The movement of vehicles and pedestrians on that road was stopped. At one stage, the accused set two motorcycles on fire and burnt them. Later, when the police reached the spot, the blockers fled from the spot. Around noon, the central leaders of the NCP went to Gopalganj through that road and joined the march and meeting.
