Former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's cabinet members, former law ministers Anisul Haque, Dipu Moni, Amir Hossain Amu, former private industry and investment advisor to the former prime minister Salman F Rahman, and former state minister Junaid Ahmed Palak, who fled to India in seven separate cases of crimes against humanity in connection with the July-August killings and massacres, have been produced before the tribunal, along with 39 others. These 39 include former bureaucrats and police officers.
They were brought to the International Criminal Tribunal in a prison van from prison on Sunday (July 20).
These cases will be heard in Tribunal-1, headed by Justice Md. Golam Mortuza Majumder, Chairman of the International Crimes Tribunal.
Earlier, on February 18, the tribunal ordered the completion of the investigation against a total of 45 people, including these 39 people.
On that day, a total of 16 people, including Anisul Haque, Salman F. Rahman, and Junaid Ahmed Palak, were brought before the International Crimes Tribunal in a case of crimes against humanity in connection with the killings and genocide in July-August.
The other accused are Awami League government ministers Faruk Khan, Dipu Moni, Abdur Razzak, Shajahan Khan, Kamal Ahmed Majumder, Golam Dastagir Gazi, Amir Hossain Amu, Kamrul Islam, former advisor Toufiq-e Elahi Chowdhury, Workers Party president Rashed Khan Menon, JSD president Hasanul Haque Inu, former justice Shamsuddin Chowdhury Manik and former Home Secretary Jahangir Alam.
On December 17 last year, the tribunal ordered the completion of the investigation within two months against Sheikh Hasina, Obaidul Quader and 46 others in two cases filed for crimes against humanity in connection with the July-August massacre.
The International Crimes Tribunal is currently on trial against former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and others accused of ordering and planning the shooting and killing of unarmed students and the public during the anti-discrimination student movement. The Awami League government carried out indiscriminate killings to stop the student movement. The 15-year rule of the Sheikh Hasina government ended on August 5 amid the student movement. After that, the interim government led by Nobel Peace Prize winner Dr. Muhammad Yunus took over the responsibility of running the country and decided to prosecute the July-August massacre.
