Milestone air crash :burned children are fighting death

The death toll from the crash of an Air Force fighter jet at Milestone School in Uttara is rising. Many burnt children are battling death in various hospitals in the capital. Even after three days, the six bodies lying in the cold storage of the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) have not been identified. In such a situation, investigative agencies and doctors are relying on DNA tests to identify the bodies.

In the meantime, efforts are being made to identify parents-child DNA by collecting hair roots, nails or buccal cells from potential relatives. As a result, the death toll has increased to 32. However, according to the latest information from the Department of Health, the death toll is still 29.

As many as 165 people are currently being treated in various hospitals for injuries sustained in the incident. Many of them are in critical condition and under close observation. Each hospital has become a place of wailing patients and wailing relatives.

Two days after the disaster, the Milestone School authorities formed a seven-member committee on Wednesday to compile a list of the dead and injured. The committee has been directed to submit a report within the next three working days.

Meanwhile, on the orders of law enforcement agencies, the entry of the general public into the Milestone School campus, the site of the accident, has been completely banned since yesterday. Even media personnel were not allowed to enter the school premises. However, a special control cell has been opened in the school principal's conference room to monitor the situation and collect information. After the accident on Monday, the Milestone School and College authorities had declared a three-day emergency holiday. This holiday will end today, Thursday. The next two days, Friday and Saturday, are weekly holidays.

Meanwhile, the scars of this accident have not yet faded among the common people. Yesterday, there was a shadow of panic, silence and pain on the faces of people around the school premises. Thousands of people came to visit the scene. Unable to enter, many left flowers in memory of the killed children. Some prayed with tears for the missing or injured children. From common people to prominent people, questions are being raised - who will take responsibility for this accident? How many more children will be burned to death before accountability is ensured?

On the other hand, Afsana Priya of Kaliakoir, Gazipur, who went missing in the Milestone School plane crash, has not been found even after three days. Her son, Afsan Ohi, a third-grade student, has returned from the scene, but her mother remains missing. Her husband and relatives are running from one hospital to another to find her.
