A court has rejected the bail of Sanatani Jagran Jote spokesperson Chinmoy Krishna Das in five cases, including the murder case of Chittagong lawyer Saiful Islam Alif.
Judge Hasanul Islam of the Chittagong Metropolitan Sessions Judge's Court gave the order after the hearing at 11:15 am on Thursday (July 24).
Assistant Public Prosecutor for the state, Md. Raihanul Wazed Chowdhury, confirmed this information.
A team led by lawyer Apurba Kumar Bhattacharya from Dhaka held the hearing on behalf of accused Chinmoy.
Meanwhile, a large number of law enforcement forces were deployed at the Chittagong court amid the bail hearing.
On October 31 last year, Firoz Khan, the then general secretary of BNP in Chandgaon Mohra ward of Chittagong city, filed a case against Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari and 19 others at Kotwali police station on charges of sedition for insulting the national flag. Firoz Khan was later dismissed from BNP. Chinmoy Krishna Das was arrested from Dhaka on November 25 in this case.
On November 26, lawyer Saiful Islam was beaten and hacked to death during clashes over Chinmoy Das' bail. His father Jamal Uddin filed a murder case naming 31 people in the case. In addition, five more cases were filed for attacks on police, obstruction of work, attacks on lawyers and trial seekers, and cocktail explosions. 51 people were arrested in six cases. Of them, 21 are arrested on charges of involvement in the murder.
