Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman's open heart surgery has been completed, said Dr. Jahangir Kabir.
His surgery was completed at a private hospital in the capital on Saturday (August 2) at around 12:30pm.
Jamaat-e-Islami's central leader and Jamaat-nominated parliamentary candidate for Dhaka-17 constituency Dr. SM Khaliduzzaman told that with everyone's prayers, the open heart surgery of the Ameer-e-Jamaat has been completed successfully. The block in 4 of his arteries has been removed. He is currently under observation in the cardiac ICU. A 7-member medical delegation led by cardiac surgeon Jahangir Kabir participated.
After the surgery, Jamaat Naib-e-Amir Abdullah Mohammad Taher gave an update on Dr. Shafiqur Rahman's physical condition at a press conference. He said, "Dr. Shafiqur Rahman's open heart surgery was successfully completed and he is healthy. He is currently under close observation. I seek prayers from the countrymen for him."
At that time, Dr. Jahangir Kabir said, 'Dr. Shafiqur Rahman has had 4 bypasses in two of his arteries. The Jamaat Ameer will be able to go home within the next 7 days.'
He further said, "He will be transferred from the ICU to the cabin within the next 3 days. Apart from this, the Jamaat Ameer will be able to return to the political arena within the next 3 weeks."
Earlier, on Saturday (July 19), he fell ill while speaking at a national rally held at Suhrawardy Udyan in the capital. After that, Dr. Shafiqur Rahman was diagnosed with five to six heart blocks. Of these, three arteries are about 85 percent blocked.
