A training fighter jet crashed and destroyed buildings, dreams, and the course of life in flames. Twelve days after that terrible incident, Uttara's Milestone College has reopened on a limited basis today. However, no teaching activities are taking place today. Students from classes 9 to 12 have returned to their classrooms in a silent mourning procession.
On Sunday (August 3), a tour of the college showed that students were entering the college through the main gate from 10 am. However, there was no noise or commotion. The Milad Mahfil, condolence and memorial service began at 10:30 am. The college principal, teachers, guardians and students participated in it. In addition, some students were seen sitting in the classrooms.
Samira Islam, a 10th grade student, said, "The building I used to walk past every day to class, today there is only a burning smell and emptiness. There are no classes today. We just came to exchange greetings."
A class 11 student named Rabiul Islam said, "Tears came to my eyes as soon as I stepped foot on the campus. We have spent so many happy times together on this field. Today, everything is silent. My chest feels heavy thinking that my classmates will not return."
On the other hand, Shah Bulbul, the college's public relations officer, said that the decision to open the campus on a limited scale has been taken so that students can gradually return to normal life. Students from classes 9 to 12 will have the opportunity to come to the college and exchange greetings with teachers and spend time with friends. This is an important step to regain mental peace.
He further said that Doa Mahfil has been organized in the college today. In addition, a medical camp is being run on the college campus with the help of the Air Force, where students are being advised on physical and mental health. The teachers of the college are continuing counseling with the students. If anyone wants, they are also getting the opportunity to talk privately. He also said that the mutual sympathy and humanity of the students, guardians and teachers have become the college's great strength in this critical time.
Incidentally, after the horrific plane crash that occurred on July 21, the Milestone College authorities declared three periods of leave. According to the latest decision, the college was closed until August 2. In the meantime, administrative activities were ongoing, and a control room was formed to help the injured.
