Principal Advisor Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus is leaving for Malaysia on a three-day bilateral official visit today, Monday. He will leave at noon at the invitation of the country's Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim. During this visit, five memorandums of understanding and three exchange notes will be signed at the top-level meeting of the two countries. At the same time, immigration and investment will be given priority.
The information was announced at a press conference held from the office of the Chief Advisor on Sunday afternoon. The press secretary to the Chief Advisor, Shafiqul Alam, Director General and Spokesperson of the Public Diplomacy Division of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Shah Asif Rahman, and others were present.
Shafiqul Alam, stating that the visit of the Chief Advisor to Malaysia is very important, said, "Bangladesh is going to deepen its relations with Malaysia. The country is important for Bangladesh in recruiting expatriate workers. The priority of the visit is immigration and investment. Overall issues of the relationship will be discussed. In addition, the two countries will discuss cooperation in deep-sea fishing."
Shah Asif Rahman said that at the invitation of Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, the Chief Advisor will pay a bilateral official visit to the country from August 11-13. The Chief Advisor will be accompanied by a high-level delegation including the Foreign Affairs Advisor, Expatriate Welfare and Overseas Employment Advisor; Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Advisor, National Security Advisor, the Chief Advisor's Special Envoy for International Affairs and the Executive Chairman of the Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA) and other officials.
He said that upon arrival in Malaysia, the Chief Advisor will be welcomed with a guard of honor. A private meeting will be held between the heads of government of the two countries at the Malaysian Prime Minister's Office in Putrajaya on Tuesday. This meeting will be followed by a bilateral meeting with the representatives and the signing of the stipulated memorandum of understanding.
The spokesperson said that a total of five MoUs are likely to be signed between the two countries. These are – cooperation in defense and energy, formation of a business council, cooperation between Bangladesh-Malaysia Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BMCCI) and chip manufacturing company MIMOS (MIMOS), and cooperation between Bangladesh Institute of International and Strategic Studies (BIISS) and Institute of Strategic and International Studies Malaysia (ISIS). Apart from this, there is a possibility of signing exchange of notes on cooperation between the two countries in halal ecosystem, higher education and diplomatic training academy.
He said that after the signing of the MoU, a press conference and a state luncheon have been organized in the honor of the Chief Advisor. On the same day, the Chief Advisor will participate in a business forum. He will also exchange views with Bangladeshis living in the country.
