Testimony has begun against ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's sister Sheikh Rehana, Rehana's daughters Tulip Siddique, Azmina Siddique, and son Radwan Mujib Siddique (Bobby) in three separate cases on charges of corruption in the allocation of plots in Purbachal.
The testimony of the three cases filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) began on Wednesday at Dhaka's Special Judge's Court-4.
Tulip Siddique is a UK Member of Parliament (MP) and former City Minister. She is now facing trial in Bangladesh.
Earlier, on August 11, testimony began being taken against Sheikh Hasina, her son Sajeeb Wazed Joy, and daughter Saima Wazed Putul in three other cases alleging corruption in plot allocation.
Two special judges' courts in Dhaka framed charges against Sheikh Hasina, her family members and 23 others in six separate cases filed by the ACC on allegations of corruption in the allocation of plots in Purbachal on July 31. Judge Abdullah Al Mamun of Dhaka's Special Judge's Court-5 set August 11 as the date for taking testimony in three of the cases. Judge Md. Rabiul Alam of Dhaka's Special Judge's Court-4 set August 13 as the date for taking testimony in the other three cases.
The 16 people accused in the case outside Sheikh Hasina's family are Sharif Ahmed, then State Minister of the Ministry of National Housing and Public Works, Shahid Ullah Khandaker, Additional Secretary Kazi Washi Uddin, Senior Assistant Secretary Purabi Golder, former RAJUK Chairman Anisur Rahman Mia, former member Mohammad Khurshid Alam, member Kabir Al Asad, member Tanmoy Das, member Nurul Islam, former member Mohammad Nasir Uddin, former member Shamsuddin Ahmed Chowdhury, Director Sheikh Shahinul Islam, Deputy Director Hafizur Rahman, Habibur Rahman, former Private Secretary to the Prime Minister Salahuddin and then Administrative Officer of the Ministry of Public Works Saiful Islam Sarkar.
The ACC began its investigation on December 26, 2024, into the plots allotted in the names of Sheikh Hasina and her family members. On March 10, the ACC approved the charge sheet in six cases alleging that a 60-katha plot was allotted in the Purbachal New City project of RAJUK through collusion, abuse of power and various irregularities.
