Nobel laureate Dr. Muhammad Yunus, the chief advisor to the interim government, is leaving for Malaysia on Monday (August 11). Already, the expectation of new dreams among the expatriates regarding his visit is gradually increasing.
Expatriate Bangladeshis are hoping that the visit of the head of government will open one of the labor markets in Bangladesh that has been closed for a long time. There is a lot of discussion about the visit, especially among expatriate Bangladeshis. What is the new Bangladesh going to get from the visit? Will the closed labor market reopen? These are the questions on the minds of expatriates.
Malaysian expatriate businessman Md. Anisur Rahman said, 'Long-time ordinary workers and educated people also hope that the closed labor market will open this time. Then many people from the country will get employment in Malaysia. Along with this, other problems of 1.2 million Bangladeshis living abroad will also be solved.'
Anisur Rahman said that just as we want the approximately 1.2 million Bangladeshi expatriates in Malaysia to have a good life, we also hope that a large number of Bangladeshis will find jobs here.
Another expatriate, Maqbul Hossain, said, "Through discussions with the Malaysian government, Dr. Yunus is expected to play an important role in expanding trade relations in addition to resolving the legality and visa complications of existing illegals. If the labor visa is resolved, remittances will increase further. We hope that in the meeting, he will strongly highlight the legality of illegals and take initiatives to resolve the visa complications of Bangladeshis."
Bangladesh High Commissioner to Malaysia Md. Shamim Ahsan has expressed hope that the relations between the two countries will reach a new height through the Chief Advisor's visit to Malaysia.
Principal Advisor Dr. Muhammad Yunus is visiting Malaysia on Monday (August 11) at the invitation of his friend, Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim. The three-day bilateral visit is expected to see the signing of five memorandums of understanding (MoUs) and the exchange of three notes in various sectors including defense, energy and halal food.
A bilateral meeting between Dr. Muhammad Yunus and Anwar Ibrahim will be held in Kuala Lumpur on Tuesday (August 12). The meeting is likely to discuss various issues including the complications in sending workers to Malaysia, defense, energy, trade and commerce, higher education, Rohingya crisis, agriculture, halal food and maritime economy, and cooperation between the two countries in the international arena including ASEAN. This was learned from diplomatic sources in Dhaka and Kuala Lumpur.
The summit will be followed by the signing of memorandums of understanding (MoUs). After that, there are plans to inaugurate a 'Joint Business Council' between Bangladesh and Malaysia.
Foreign Affairs Advisor Md. Touhid Hossain is quite optimistic about the visit of the Chief Advisor. He recently told the media, "We are optimistic that we will be able to remove many obstacles. First, it is a visit at the highest level; second, there is good chemistry between the heads of government of the two countries, we will utilize that."
