Germany has deployed unarmed police officers to the Palestinian territories, a move the country has taken to bring stability to the Middle East. The team, based in Jerusalem, will help rebuild local security forces, the German interior minister said.
The Anadolu news agency reported this information in a report on Wednesday (November 12), citing local media in the country .
Germany has deployed several unarmed police officers to ensure peace and stability in the Palestinian territories, the news agency said, according to local media reports on Wednesday.
"An effective police force is essential for lasting peace in the Middle East," German Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt told the country's news agency DPA.
He said that for this reason, it has been decided to send a high-level team of federal police to Jerusalem.
Dobrindt said these officials are helping to rebuild local police and security forces in the Palestinian territories from the Office for Security (OSC) based in Jerusalem.
According to the news agency, the four-member team arrived in the Palestinian territories about two weeks ago. Their main task is to further expand Germany's long-standing assistance program to strengthen the Palestinian civil security forces.
"For more than 15 years, German police have been working to strengthen the capacity of the Palestinian Authority. This new mission is a continuation of that effort," Dobrindt said.
