The Israeli military has launched new airstrikes across the besieged Gaza Strip, killing at least 24 Palestinians, including children, and wounding 87 others.

The latest attack is seen by Gaza authorities as another clear violation of the six-week-old ceasefire, Al Jazeera reported on Sunday (November 23).

Witnesses said the first strike on Saturday hit a car in northern Gaza City. It was followed by strikes in the central Deir al-Balah and Nuseirat refugee camps. At least 11 people were killed and 20 wounded in a drone strike in the Rimal area of ​​Gaza City, said Rami Mohanna, managing director of Al-Shifa Hospital.

In addition, at least three people were killed in an Israeli strike on a house in Deir al-Balah, including a woman. Khalil Abu Hattab, who was there, said there was a "terrible explosion" during the attack.

He said, "When I looked outside, I saw that the entire area was covered in smoke. I couldn't see anything. I covered my ears and told everyone in the tent to run. Later, I realized that the upper floor of the neighboring house had blown away. The ceasefire is in a very fragile state. You can't survive like this. Nowhere is safe."

The Gaza government media office said Israel had violated the ceasefire at least 497 times since it came into effect on October 10, 2019. The attacks have killed 342 civilians, most of them children, women and the elderly.

"Such continuous and serious ceasefire violations by the Israeli occupation forces are in clear violation of international humanitarian law and treaties," the statement said.

However, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's office said the operation was in response to a Hamas fighter attacking soldiers in Israeli-controlled territory in Gaza. The statement claimed that "Israel killed five senior Hamas fighters."

Hamas has not yet commented on the deaths of its members.
