The Israeli military operation in the Gaza Strip killed 37 people and injured 98 others in the 24 hours, the Gaza Health Ministry said in a statement on Friday evening.
The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) have been conducting an operation in Gaza for nearly 15 months. According to Health Ministry figures, the total death toll in Gaza since the latest operation on Thursday and Friday has reached 45,436. In addition, 108,038 Palestinians have been injured in the operation so far.
"The actual number of dead and injured is much higher because many people are buried under the rubble of buildings. It was not possible to rescue them due to the lack of necessary equipment and manpower," the Health Ministry said in a statement on Friday.
On October 7, 2023, fighters from Hamas, the armed political group that controls the Gaza Strip, entered Israeli territory and carried out a surprise attack. After entering Israel, the fighters first opened fire indiscriminately, killing 1,200 people, and then took 242 people hostage.
Israeli forces began an operation in Gaza that day to teach Hamas a "proper lesson" and free the hostages, which is still ongoing.
The United Nations and the international community have repeatedly called on Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to halt the military operation in Gaza. A genocide case has already been filed against Israel at the International Court of Justice (ICJ), known as the UN's court.
However, Netanyahu has made it clear that the operation in Gaza will continue until Hamas is completely weakened and rendered ineffective and the hostages are released.
