Russia has strongly condemned US air and missile strikes on Iran's nuclear facilities, calling them "irresponsible, provocative and dangerous". It warned that the moves could push the Middle East towards a major war with dire consequences, even a nuclear catastrophe.

At an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council on Sunday, Russian Ambassador Vasily Nebenzia said that the United States has violated the UN Charter, international law, and the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT).

The Russian ambassador said that the United States has opened a kind of 'Pandora's box. Now no one knows what the consequences might be. He added that the United States has completely ignored the opinion of the international community by attacking nuclear facilities under the supervision of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

Nebenzia said the situation is similar to the one before the 2003 Iraq war, when then-US Secretary of State Colin Powell presented false evidence to the United Nations as a pretext for attacking Iraq. His evidence was later proven false, and Iraq fell into chaos for years.

The Russian ambassador to the United Nations said, "Today's situation is very similar. Once again, a fairy tale is being presented to the people, so that suffering falls on millions of people in the Middle East."

Russia has said there is no evidence that Iran is developing nuclear weapons. Previous assessments by US intelligence agencies have also said the same. But President Trump has dismissed his country's intelligence report.

Nebenzia accused the United States of fabricating fabricated stories to find excuses for the use of force and destroying the diplomatic framework built around Iran's peaceful nuclear program.

The Russian ambassador also said that Western countries are calling for "restraint" at the UN, but instead of criticizing the US and Israel for the attack, they are blaming Iran. This is the ultimate example of their hypocrisy.

Russian Ambassador Nebenzia said, "This is a striking example of duplicity. Iran is one of the most watched countries, yet it is being targeted. On the other hand, the attacking country (the United States) itself has not signed the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT)."

The ambassador said the attack has hit the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and the global nuclear regulatory system, and if tensions continue to rise, the world could once again return to an era of uncontrolled nuclear risk.

Nebenzia further complained, "This is a cruel and unethical situation. The IAEA Director General has not said a word about this. He has never even called on Israel to join the NPT."

Russia, along with China and Pakistan, has submitted a draft resolution to the United Nations calling for an immediate unconditional ceasefire and a return to diplomatic talks on the Iranian nuclear issue, in addition to calling for urgent action.
