Six people, including children and women, were killed and 13 others injured in a terrorist attack on a courthouse in Iran, which later led to clashes between the attackers and security forces.
A group of armed members of the Sunni extremist militant group Jaysh al-Adl attacked a courthouse in Sistan-Baluchistan province, bordering Pakistan and Afghanistan, on Saturday, Reuters reported, citing Iran's state news agency IRNA. ABC News reported that six people were killed in the incident.
The report said that terrorists threw hand grenades at the courthouse in the provincial capital of Zahedan. A mother and child were among the dead in their attack, a police official said.
Jaysh al-Adl claimed responsibility for the attack on its Telegram channel after the attack. Civilians were asked to leave the area for their safety.
Baloch human rights group Halvas, citing witnesses, said the attackers suddenly entered the judges' chambers.
Sistan-Baluchistan province is home to Iran's Sunni Muslim Baluch minority, who say they are politically marginalized and economically deprived, and are often the scene of clashes between security forces and Sunni militant groups and separatists.
