At least 83 people were killed and at least 554 others injured in Israeli airstrikes in the Gaza Strip throughout the day on Wednesday, the Gaza Health Ministry said in a statement late Wednesday evening.
The IDF began its operation in Gaza in October 2023. According to the ministry, the total number of deaths in the Israeli army's operation in Gaza since Wednesday has reached 60,332. In addition, another 147,643 Palestinians have been injured.
"Many of the victims of the occupying forces' bombs are trapped under the rubble. It is not possible to rescue them due to the lack of necessary equipment and manpower," the Health Ministry said in a statement.
The statement also said that Israeli forces are also attacking Palestinians who came to receive relief food. On Friday, 53 Palestinians were killed and 400 others were injured while trying to receive relief in various areas of Gaza.
On October 7, 2023, fighters from Hamas, the armed political group that controls the Gaza Strip, entered Israeli territory and launched a surprise attack. They opened fire indiscriminately, killing 1,200 people and taking 251 hostages.
Israeli forces launched an operation in Gaza that day to respond to Hamas attacks and free the hostages. After more than 15 months of continuous operations, Israel declared a ceasefire in Gaza on January 19, forced by pressure from the United States and other mediating countries.
But before the two-month pause was over, the IDF resumed its operations in Gaza on March 18. In the second phase of the operation, 9,163 Palestinians have been killed and another 35,602 injured in Gaza in the past four months.
At least 35 of the 251 hostages taken by Hamas fighters are believed to be still alive. The IDF has announced that it will rescue them through a military operation.
The United Nations and the international community have repeatedly called on Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to halt the military operation in Gaza. A genocide case has already been filed against Israel at the International Court of Justice (ICJ), known as the UN's court.
However, Netanyahu said that the goal of the operation is to completely weaken and disable Hamas and free the hostages, and that the operation in Gaza will continue until the goal is achieved.
