Pakistan's Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar said that the unresolved issue of 1971 between Bangladesh and Pakistan has been resolved twice before.
He said this in response to a question from journalists after a bilateral meeting with the interim government's foreign affairs advisor Md. Towhid Hossain at a hotel in the capital on Sunday (August 24).
Journalists drew the attention of the Pakistani Foreign Minister to the unresolved issues, including the genocide in the 1971 Liberation War. In response, Ishaq Dar said that the issue was resolved through the tripartite agreement in 1974 and the visit of Pervez Musharraf in 2002, expressing regret. He said this on behalf of the entire Pakistani nation and to the entire Bangladeshi nation.
He said, "I think once something is resolved within the family, between two brothers, it's done. Islam says to purify the heart. You purify your heart. We have to move forward."
"We want to work together to do something better for the people of both countries. That is our consensus and that is what we are doing," said Ishaq Dar.
Referring to the discussions during the bilateral meeting, he said, "We discussed a wide range of issues. Everything in the world, including trade, economy, investment, and working together on security and defense."
He said, "We are in agreement with you, there was no difference in our opinions. Which is a very good thing."
Agreement : Visa abolition agreement for holders of official and diplomatic passports of the two countries.
MoU : Formation of a joint working group on trade between the two countries, cultural exchange, cooperation between the Foreign Service Academies of the two countries, cooperation between the state news agencies of the two countries (BSS and APPC), and cooperation between the Bangladesh Institute of International and Strategic Studies (BIISS) and the Institute of Strategic Studies Islamabad (ISSI) of Pakistan.
Pakistan's foreign minister arrived in Dhaka on Saturday on a two-day visit. This was the first visit by a Pakistani foreign minister to Dhaka in more than a decade. Ishaq Dar had a busy first day of the visit. On the first day, he held meetings with leaders of BNP, Jamaat-e-Islami and NCP.
Ishaq Dar was scheduled to visit Dhaka on April 27 this year. However, Islamabad postponed Dar's visit due to tensions on the border in the wake of the terrorist attack in Pahelgam, India.
