Six people were killed and another seriously injured in a collision between a truck and a microbus in Baraigram, Natore.
The accident occurred in the Serampur area next to the Airmari Bridge in the upazila at 10:30 am on Wednesday (July 23).
Confirming the matter, OC of Banpara Highway Police Station Ismail Hossain said that the names and identities of the deceased could not be immediately known. All the deceased were passengers of the microbus. As the condition of the other injured person is critical, he has been sent to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment.
Baraigram Police Station OC Golam Sarwar Hossain said that a Dhaka-bound microbus was travelling from Natore to Dhaka when it reached the Tarmuj Pump area and collided with a truck coming from the opposite direction. The microbus was twisted and five people died on the spot. Two were taken to the Upazila Health Complex in separate conditions, where one died. However, the identities of the deceased were not immediately known.
He also said that after receiving the news of the accident, police and fire service members quickly reached the spot and carried out rescue work. The two vehicles involved in the accident have been seized. At that time, a long traffic jam was created on the highway.
