Bangladesh confirmed on Sunday in Dhaka that batsman Shamim Hossain has been added to the squad for the third and final T20 International against Ireland, which will take place on Tuesday at the Bir Shrestha Shaheed Flight Lieutenant Motiur Rahman Stadium in Chattogram, with the series level at 1-1.
Shamim, a left hander who has featured in 46 T20 internationals, returns as Bangladesh seek stability in the middle order for the decider. Team officials said the addition provides “an extra option with experience in this format” as they look to close out the series.
The squad is led by captain Litton Kumer Das with Saif Hassan as vice captain. Bangladesh head into the final match knowing the margins are fine, and selectors hope the inclusion of Shamim can provide both balance and depth should the contest become tight.
