A 30-year-old woman anjida Akhter, infected with human metapneumovirus (HMPV), has died in the country. She died while undergoing treatment at Mohakhali Infectious Diseases Hospital.
Infectious Diseases Hospital Superintendent Dr. Ariful Bashar confirmed the matter.
The woman was reported to have been infected with HMPV on January 12. It was known that the woman had no history of foreign travel.
Although it is said that there is nothing to fear about this virus, the Department of Health has issued a warning about it as the virus has spread to several neighboring countries.
A press release from the Department of Health's Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) on January 12 said that the outbreak and severity of the HMPV virus have increased alarmingly in various countries of the subcontinent, including China. The infection of this disease is especially common among children under 14 years of age and people 65 years of age and older. Along with this, there may be a high risk for people with long-term health problems such as asthma or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, pregnant women, and people with weakened immune systems.
