Supreme Court lawyer Vishnu Shankar Jain filed a case alleging that Harihar Temple was demolished to build Shahi Mosque. When government officials arrived there today to investigate the case, ordinary Muslims were prevented from entering the mosque. At that time, the casualty occurred in a clash with the police.
It should be noted that earlier there was a fierce conflict over the Babri Masjid-Ram Temple, then a new controversy started over the Gnanabapi Masjid in Varanasi and this time there was a conflict over the Shahi Jama Masjid in Sambhal. The story is the same - allegation of building a mosque by demolishing a temple.
Supreme Court lawyer Vishnu Shankar Jain, the plaintiff in the case, claimed that the Mughal emperor Babur built the mosque in 1529 by demolishing the Harihar temple. In view of that case, the court ordered an investigation. Earlier, after the first round of investigation on November 19, government officials went there for the second round of investigation today. And then the clashes started when the worshipers were prevented from entering the mosque. There was already tension in the area over the issue.
According to the police, around 300 people gathered on Sunday and prevented the investigation officers from entering the mosque and vandalized the police car by throwing bricks. The police then fired tear gas. However, the imam of the mosque repeatedly urged everyone to remain calm. Even after this, the collision could not be avoided. 3 people died in the clash with the police. On the other hand, 30 policemen were injured in the clash.
