Bangladesh beat Ireland by a large margin to win the series

Many were expecting Bangladesh to win in the first session of the fifth day. However, Ireland's tail-enders put that thought to rest today (Sunday) as they batted 59.2 overs. Curtis Campher, who was unbeaten on 71, set the record for the highest number of balls bowled (259) in the second innings at Mirpur. Despite this, the hosts won by a huge margin of 217 runs after a long wait.

Ireland ended the fourth day yesterday with 176 runs for 6 wickets. That's when Nazmul Hossain Shanto's team started to smell the aroma of victory. However, they had to wait a long time to secure the series. The previous day, the top and middle order batters played 54 overs, on the contrary, today the remaining 4 batters played 59 overs against Taijul-Hassan. Earlier, Bangladesh won the Sylhet Test by an innings. As a result, the red-ball series ended 2-0.

Earlier, former Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan held the record for the highest score of 212 balls in the fourth innings of a Test in Mirpur. Campher surpassed him with an unbeaten 71 off 259 balls. This was the first fifty of his Test career. The Irish all-rounder had previously scored a century in an international Test. Campher played a key role in keeping the Irish in the match for more than half of the fifth day. He shared a partnership of 26 off 105 balls with Andy McBrien, 48 off 85 balls with Jordan Neil and 54 off 191 balls with Gavin Hoy for the ninth wicket.

Earlier on the fourth day, Bangladesh declared their second innings at 297 for 4. The first innings' total of 211 gave the Irish a target of 509 runs. Chasing an almost impossible target, the visitors ended the day at 176 for 6. Taijul Islam removed Andy McBrien in the 14th over of the day. With this, the left-arm spinner became the first bowler from Bangladesh to take his 250th Test wicket. McBrien was caught lbw for 21 runs.

The fall of the seventh wicket broke the 26-run partnership of Campher and McBrien. Then Campher and Jordan Neill added 48 runs. Neill was bowled by Mehedi Hasan Miraj to break the partnership. This was the all-rounder's first wicket in the second innings. Bangladesh were hoping to win in the shortest time by taking 8 wickets for 237 runs. But Campher, who had already scored the first fifty of his Test career, was still at the crease. He put on a stronger partnership with Hoe for the ninth wicket. Amidst the fear that the match would go towards a draw, Hasan Murad made a breakthrough by trapping Hoe at leg-before.

The Irish legspinner scored 37 runs off 104 balls. In doing so, he broke a marathon partnership of 54 runs off 191 balls. Matthew Humphries came to the crease as the last batter and was bowled off the next ball of Murad. With this, Hasan Murad, who made his debut in the Sylhet Test, took 4 wickets in the second innings and 6 wickets in the match. Taijul took the same 4 wickets, taking 8 wickets in the entire match. With 13 wickets in two Tests, this is the highest wicket-taker for Bangladesh in the series.

On the other hand, Bangladesh's veteran star Mushfiqur Rahim played his 100th match in the Mirpur Test. He made the milestone match a record-breaking match with a batting performance. Mushi became only the second batsman in the world to score fifties (106 and 53*) in two innings of his 100th Test and won the Man of the Match award.
