Before the start of the Colombo Test, there were rumors that Nazmul Hossain Shanto might step down as the captain. After the second and final Test against Sri Lanka, the rumors were sealed. Shanto has stepped down as the Test captain of the Bangladesh team. He made this announcement at a press conference after the match today (Saturday).
Announcing his decision to step down as the Test captain, Shanto said, "I have one announcement: I am stepping down from the Test captaincy of the Bangladesh team. I do not want to continue as the captain in the Test format anymore."
Shant said that he has taken such a decision for the good of the team, "I want to give a clear message to everyone that this is not a personal matter. This decision was taken for the good of the team and I think it will be good for the team. My personal opinion is that the three captains may be a little difficult. I have stepped down from here entirely for the good of the team."
Later, in response to a question, the Tiger batsman said that he informed the BCB's cricket management department about this decision several days ago.
The BCB recently removed Nazmul Hossain Shanto as the captain of the ODI format. Mehedi Hasan Miraz has been given a new responsibility in his place. Earlier, Shanto himself had given up the T20 captaincy to focus on batting. At that time, he also told the board that he wanted to run the Test and ODI teams. However, the BCB went on the path of changing the ODI captain without informing him.
However, board president Aminul Islam Bulbul later said that Shanto's captaincy (ODI) was not taken away. Rather, the decision was taken with the consent of everyone on the board. Even Shanto himself accepted this decision with a sportsmanlike mentality, the board president said.
