West Indies sink into shame after being bowled out for 27 runs

Roston Chase was given the captaincy of the West Indies with the Test series against Australia. But he may want to forget the beginning of this new chapter at home. Australia has won all 3 Tests on the pace-friendly wickets of the Caribbean. Chase could have found solace only in a whitewash. Incredibly, his team was bundled out for just 27 runs in the third Test. Which is the second lowest in Test history.

Chase's expression at the end of the match at Sabina Park in Jamaica can be summed up in two words. He called the West Indies' performance "heartbreaking" and "embarrassing". And the Caribbeans escaped the embarrassment of being bowled out for the lowest score in a Test by just one run. Chasing a target of 204 set by Australia in the third Test of the series, they were bowled out for 27 in just 14.3 overs.

Will the Caribbeans take responsibility for such a collapse or will the superhuman bowling of Starc-Boland play a role in the analysis for now? Mitchell Starc started the collapse by taking 3 wickets in the first over of the Caribbean innings. In the end, he took 6 wickets. Along with him, Scott Boland also became a part of history. He became only the tenth bowler to take a hat-trick in Tests.

The record for being all out for a minimum of 26 runs in a Test was set 70 years ago. New Zealand was humiliated by England in the 1955 Auckland Test on their own soil. That may not ease the Caribbean's sense of embarrassment, but it will put them second on the list of embarrassing innings. The previous record was for West Indies to be all out for a minimum of 47 runs in a Test. That Test against England also coincidentally took place on this very ground in Jamaica. This time, Roston Chase's team was all out for another 20 runs.

In this embarrassing record-breaking match, all seven West Indies batsmen were dismissed for ducks (zero runs). Even their first six top-order batsmen scored just 6 runs together, the lowest in any innings in Test history. In addition, the Caribbeans' 14.3 overs in their second innings were the third lowest in Test history. Previously, South Africa had batted just 12.3 overs on their way to being bowled out for 30 against England in 1924. In addition, Sri Lanka were bowled out in 13.5 overs against the Proteas last November.

Earlier, Australia had won the first two Tests of the series against the hosts West Indies by big margins (159 and 133 runs). The batters were helpless against the bowlers in each match, but the Caribbeans suffered doubly compared to Australia. In the third Test at Sabina Park in Kingston, the Aussies, who batted in the first innings, were bundled out for just 225 runs. Then the West Indies scored 82 runs less than them (143). In the second innings, Australia's innings also collapsed, this time they were all out for 121 runs. Still, their capital stood at 203 runs, including the first innings lead. Against them, the Caribbeans had only 27!

In the second innings, only West Indies' seventh batsman Justin Greaves (11) managed to reach double figures. On the other hand, Starc took 6 wickets for just 9 runs for Australia. Apart from this, Boland, who took a hat-trick, took 3 wickets for 2 runs and Josh Hazlewood took the remaining 1 wicket.
