Anti-Trump protests in all 50 US states

The United States was in turmoil all day on Saturday with slogans like 'We want Trump to resign', 'Free democracy', 'We have no king'. Millions of people protested in all 50 states of the country against President Donald Trump and his advisor, billionaire Elon Musk. Protesters also took to the streets in several European countries. Taking a stand against Trump's policies, the protesters said that the US president is taking away the rights and freedoms of the people.

The nationwide protest has been called 'Hands Off'. About 150 groups of rights activists participated in the protest. More than 1,400 protests and rallies were organized in major cities of all states, including Washington, New York, Texas, Florida, Colorado, Minnesota, Carolina, Delaware. According to an organization called 'Indivisible' that joined the protest, about 600,000 people signed up to join Saturday's protest.

The organizers of the protest included civil rights organizations, women's rights groups, labor unions, retired employees' organizations, and LGBTQ-plus rights activists. They made three demands: an end to the billionaires' control and corruption in Donald Trump's administration; continued funding for social security programs, including the federal government's health insurance program called Medicaid; and an end to attacks on immigrants, transgender people, and other communities.

The largest protest on Saturday took place in the capital, Washington, D.C. Ezra Levin, co-founder of Indivisible, the organization that organized the protest, told Reuters that through this massive protest, they want to send a clear message to President Trump, Elon Musk, Republican members of Congress and their allies that any interference with American democracy will not be tolerated.

'The entire country has been attacked'
Terry Klein, a retired scientist who traveled from New Jersey to Washington, D.C., on Saturday to participate in the protest, told Reuters from beneath the Washington Monument, "I'm here to protest against immigration, the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), tariffs, education - all of Trump's policies. I mean, our entire country has been attacked. All of the institutions that make up America have been attacked."

On Saturday, the sky in Washington was overcast, with light rain. As the day progressed, the crowd around the monument grew larger. Many held banners and placards with slogans against Trump and Mask. Some carried Ukrainian flags. Others held placards that read "Free Palestine." Some of the protesters protested the US's support for Israel's renewed attacks on Gaza.

After taking office for his second term on January 20, Trump has issued several executive orders. These include orders related to illegal immigration, foreign aid, and transgender rights. Cases have been filed in various states against Trump's various orders. Some orders have been suspended by the courts. In addition, the DOGE formed by Trump has been given responsibility to billionaire businessman Elon Musk. Under this organization, 121,361 federal government employees in the United States have been laid off.

Protesters were particularly angry with the Social Security Administration (SSA) on Saturday. Hundreds of people gathered in front of the US government's Social Security Administration headquarters in Baltimore, Maryland, to protest the agency's cuts to benefits for the elderly and disabled. "I'm scared, I'm angry," said Linda Falcao, 64, who is protesting the cuts.

Democratic members of Congress protest
Several members of the US Congress joined the protest on Saturday. Jamie Raskin, a Democrat from Maryland, told protesters in Washington that the country has no future under a man who practices politics like Mussolini and manages the economy like Herbert Hoover.

The protest gathered in the National Mall area of Washington. The protesters were chanting slogans like 'Save the Constitution' and 'Save our rights'. Ilhan Omar, a Democrat from Minnesota, said to them, 'If you believe in a country where we look after our neighbors, where we take care of the poor, where we build a future for our children, then we have to fight for that country.'

Protesters also gathered in large numbers in the state of Florida. Representative Maxwell Frost said, "If you look at human history, you will see that authoritarians are not satisfied with what they have. So they act beyond limits. They violate the law. Then they try to understand the public's feelings."

Former President Barack Obama has previously spoken out against Trump's policies. In a speech at Hamilton College in New York on Thursday, he urged Americans to stand up to Trump's political agenda and to be prepared for "potential sacrifice" to defend democratic values.

Europe against Trump
Protests against Donald Trump and Elon Musk also took place in various European cities on Saturday. Protesters gathered in the German capitals of Berlin and Frankfurt, the French capital of Paris, the UK capital of London, and the Portuguese capital of Lisbon.

The protest in Frankfurt was organized by an organization called 'Democrats Abroad'. The organization was formed by the US Democratic Party for American citizens living abroad. On the other hand, in Berlin, protesters took a position in front of a showroom of Tesla, the company owned by Elon Musk. They chanted, 'Elon, no one voted for you.'

More than 200 protesters gathered at the Palais de la Republique in Paris. Most of them are US citizens. Many were seen holding banners reading 'Resist the Tyrant', 'Rule of Law' and 'Defend Democracy'. And in London's Trafalgar Square, a few hundred protesters chanted slogans aimed at Trump, including 'Stay out of Canada, stay out of Greenland, stay out of Ukraine.'
