At least 36 people have been killed in a powerful earthquake in Tibet, China, the USGS said. The quake, which struck at 9:05 a.m. local time on Tuesday, measured 7.1 on the Richter scale.
The epicenter of the earthquake was about 50 miles west of the Tibetan capital Lhasa, Xinhua news agency reported. The casualties occurred in the town of Gedar in Damaksong County, near the area.
