A bus lost control and fell off a road in Thailand on its way to a school trip, killing at least 18 people and injuring 23 others.

In a report on Wednesday (February 26), the news agency Reuters reported that there were about fifty passengers on the bus and they were going on a study trip.

"It was a downhill road and the bus's brakes failed and the driver lost control before the vehicle overturned," Colonel Sophon Framaneh said.

He added that all those who died were adults and were on a school trip. The police official told Reuters that there were 49 passengers on the bus. All of them, including the driver, were Thai citizens.

Several images circulating on social media after the accident showed rescue teams and medical workers at the scene in Prachinburi province, 155 km (96 miles) east of the capital Bangkok.

Meanwhile, Thai Prime Minister Phet Thonglor Shinawatra expressed his condolences to the families of the victims and said the incident was under investigation. In a post on social media platform X, Kinney said, "If there is evidence that the standards of the vehicles involved in the accident were violated or if there is evidence of reckless use of the vehicles, legal action will be taken."
