Google's digital payment service 'Google Pay' is going to be officially launched in Bangladesh. Bangladesh Bank Governor Dr. Ahsan H. Mansur will inaugurate the service at a ceremony organized at a hotel in the capital on June 24.
City Bank is launching this service with the support of Google, MasterCard, and Visa. Through this, it is the first bank in the country to join Google Pay.
In the first phase, only City Bank MasterCard and Visa cardholders will be able to use Google Pay by adding their cards to Google Wallet. The opportunity will be expanded later when other banks are added.
Using Google Pay, customers can make seamless, fast and secure transactions by tapping their Android phone at any point-of-sale (POS) terminal, domestically or internationally, without the need to carry a separate card.
To use the service, customers must have an Android smartphone. They must download the Google Pay app on their phone and add their City Bank card. After that, they can pay at any store or restaurant by tapping their smartphone.
Google Pay does not charge any fees for transactions. It uses a 'token' instead of the original card information to ensure the security of customer information.
