The shutdown program is continuing for the second day at the National Board of Revenue (NBR). A full shutdown program was observed at all customs and tax offices across the country, including the NBR, on Saturday. The program is continuing across the country, including the capital, on Sunday.
However, by 10:30 am, the presence of protesters in front of the Agargaon Revenue Building was seen to be less than yesterday. There was also relaxation in entry at the main gate. Officials are able to enter the building by showing their identity cards.
Meanwhile, RAB, police, coast guard, BGB and Ansar members took up positions today like yesterday, but their numbers are small. Although no one entered yesterday, officials were seen taking positions in the bottala inside the main gate today.
A police officer said, "We have asked the officers to be allowed entry until 10 am. Their office hours are at 9 am. Some are still coming. We are allowing them to enter after checking their identity cards."
NBR officials say that as the day progresses, officials from Dhaka and other parts of the country will join the movement. Yesterday, March to NBR programs were also observed from various customs and tax offices. As a result, work was not done at all the custom houses and customs stations in the country, including Chittagong Port, Benapole Port, Dhaka Custom House. As a result, customs and tax collection from these stations practically stopped.
The NBR Reform Unity Council announced yesterday afternoon that the 'shutdown' and 'March to NBR' programs will continue today. The agitators are interested in talks with the government. Their condition is that the NBR chairman must be removed before the talks. Allegedly, the current NBR chairman is ignoring NBR officials and employees in the ongoing reforms of the revenue sector. On the contrary, the agitators are being suppressed.
