Stock market: index at highest level in eight months

The country's main stock market, the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), saw its indices and trading volumes rise significantly on Wednesday compared to the previous few days. The main index rose 93 points to 5,364 points, the highest level in more than eight months.

Earlier, on November 5, the DSEX was higher than yesterday. On that day, the index was at 5,365 points. Including yesterday, the DSE's main index increased for seven consecutive working days.

Meanwhile, the trading volume on the DSE increased by about 211 crore taka from the previous day to 986 crore 53 lakh taka yesterday. The previous day, Tuesday, it was 775 crore 60 lakh taka. The trading volume yesterday was the highest in the last 10 months.

Outside the main index, the DSE Shariah Index rose 16.80 points to 1,178 points yesterday. And the 'DS30' index rose 56.31 points to 2,086 points. Of the 399 companies and mutual funds traded, 218 increased in price, 102 decreased and 79 remained unchanged. Grameenphone, BAT Bangladesh, BRAC Bank, United Power and Robi are notable among the companies that contributed more to the index's growth.

DSEX crossed 5,000 points on July 9. The index has been rising steadily since July 14. Transactions have also increased relatively recently. At the beginning of this month, transactions were around Tk 500 crore. Market participants said that the strengthening of the taka against the dollar, the reduction in interest rates on savings certificates, and some positive steps in the budget are contributing to the increase in the index and transactions in the stock market. Officials of various brokerage houses said that the market has been in a bad state for the last few months. A trend of price increases began this month. This trend has had a positive impact on investor confidence. The increase in confidence is affecting the market index and transactions overall.
